Sale Ties Own Record By Striking Out 10 Batters In 8th Straight Game

May 20, 2017 12:37 PM

Red Sox starter Chris Sale tied his own record by striking out at least 10 batters in an eighth straight game.

Sale reached the double-digit mark when he fanned the A's Josh Phegley to end the seventh inning Friday night. Sale had previously struck out at least 10 batters in eight straight games in 2015 when he pitched for the White Sox.

The only other pitcher in modern-era history with eight straight double-digit strikeout games is Pedro Martinez.

Yankees Retire Derek Jeter's No. 2

May 15, 2017 7:36 AM

Upon having his No. 2 retired by the New York Yankees in a pregame ceremony Sunday night, a thankful Derek Jeter said he would not want to be anybody else.

"There isn't a person or player I would trade places with that's playing now or ever," Jeter said, addressing the sellout crowd before the Yankees' 11-6 win over the Houston Astros. "And the reason why I say that is because I got a chance to play for a first-class organization and in front of the greatest fans in the history of sports."

Anthony Rendon Has 6 Hits, 3 HRs, 10 RBIs On Sunday

May 1, 2017 8:52 AM

Nationals third baseman Anthony Rendon went 6-for-6 with three home runs and 10 RBIs on Sunday against the Mets, becoming just the second player in Major League Baseball history to have a game that included six hits, three home runs and 10 RBIs.

Walker Cooper is the other player. He went 6-for-7 when he had three home runs and 10 RBIs for the Reds against the Cubs on July 6, 1949.

"I may have had three home runs in high school," Rendon said of his historic game, "but never like that with the RBI."
